Article 2 – Site Access

Access to and use of this website are reserved for strictly personal, non-commercial purposes. You agree not to use this website or the information and data it contains for commercial, political, or advertising purposes, or for any form of commercial solicitation, including sending unsolicited emails.

Article 3 – Site Content

All trademarks, texts, software and other elements reproduced or used on this website are protected by applicable intellectual property law. They are the sole property of the publisher or its partners. Any reproduction, representation, use or adaptation, in any form, without prior written consent from the publisher, is strictly prohibited. The publisher's failure to initiate proceedings upon becoming aware of unauthorised uses does not constitute acceptance of such uses.

Article 4 – Site Management

To ensure proper management of the website, the publisher may at any time:

  • suspend, interrupt or limit access to all or part of the website;
  • remove any information that may disrupt its operation or contravene national or international laws;
  • suspend the website for maintenance and updates.

Article 5 – Liability

The publisher cannot be held liable for failures, breakdowns or interruptions preventing access to the website or any of its features. The connection equipment you use is solely your responsibility.

AI-generated translations and explanations are provided for informational purposes only and may contain errors or inaccuracies. The publisher disclaims all liability for the accuracy or completeness of AI-generated content.

The publisher cannot be held liable for legal proceedings brought against you as a result of your use of the website or your failure to comply with these terms.

Article 6 – Hyperlinks

Users are permitted to create hyperlinks to all or part of this website. Any link must be removed upon simple request from the publisher. The publisher is not responsible for the content of third-party websites to which links may point.

Article 7 – Service Description

Paralelo is a language learning platform that provides AI-assisted translations and explanations. The Service allows users to:

  • access public domain books (Project Gutenberg) with AI translations and explanations;
  • upload personal books (PDF/EPUB) for translation (Pro subscription);
  • receive AI-generated translations and grammar explanations;
  • view word-by-word alignments between source and target languages.

Article 8 – User Accounts

8.1 Registration

You may create an account using Google OAuth or email/password authentication. You are responsible for the confidentiality of your login credentials.

8.2 Security

You are responsible for all activity that occurs under your account. Report any unauthorised use immediately to support@paralelo.to.

8.3 Termination

The publisher reserves the right to suspend or delete accounts that violate these terms or engage in abusive behaviour.

Article 9 – Subscription and Payment

9.1 Free Tier

The Free tier provides access to Project Gutenberg books with a maximum of 5 AI explanations per day. No payment is required.

9.2 Pro Tier

The Pro tier (€9/month) provides unlimited AI explanations and the ability to upload personal books. Payments are processed by Lemon Squeezy.

9.3 Billing

Pro subscriptions are billed monthly. You may cancel at any time and will retain access to the service until the end of the current billing period.

9.4 Right of Withdrawal

In accordance with Article L221-18 of the French Code de la consommation, you have 14 days from the date of subscription to exercise your right of withdrawal, without having to provide reasons or pay any penalties.

However, in accordance with Article L221-28 12° of the French Code de la consommation, if you expressly request immediate access to the Pro service upon subscription, you acknowledge that you expressly waive your right of withdrawal once service delivery has begun.

9.5 Refunds

Outside the exercise of the statutory right of withdrawal, any refund request must be sent to support@paralelo.to.

Article 10 – User Content

10.1 Uploaded Books

Pro users may upload PDF and EPUB files for translation. You retain all rights to your uploaded content and warrant that you have the necessary rights to upload and translate it.

10.2 Copyright Compliance

You must not upload content protected by copyright without the prior written authorisation of the rights holder. The publisher reserves the right to remove any infringing content.

10.3 Content Processing

Uploaded content is processed by AI language models (via the OpenRouter API) to generate translations and explanations. Please refer to our Privacy Policy (paralelo.to/privacy) for details on data processing.

Article 11 – Data Collection and Protection

Your data is collected by STACKADOC. Under Regulation (EU) 2016/679 (GDPR) and French Law No. 78-17 of 6 January 1978 as amended, you have the following rights:

  • right of access to your personal data;
  • right of rectification in case of inaccuracy;
  • right to erasure ('right to be forgotten');
  • right to restriction of processing;
  • right to object to processing;
  • right to data portability.

To exercise these rights, contact us by email: privacy@paralelo.to, or by post: STACKADOC, 3 RUE JULES GUESDE, 91130 RIS-ORANGIS, France. Any request must be accompanied by a copy of a valid identity document. A response will be provided within one month of receipt of the request, which may be extended by two months if the complexity or number of requests requires it.

You may also file a complaint with the French data protection authority (CNIL): https://www.cnil.fr/ — We recommend contacting us first so we can resolve the matter amicably.

Article 12 – Data Use

Personal data collected is used for the following purposes:

  • access and use of the platform by the user;
  • management and optimisation of the service;
  • user support;
  • verification, identification and authentication;
  • fraud prevention and security incident management;
  • audience measurement (Google Analytics).

The legal basis for processing is the performance of the contract between the user and the platform, and the publisher's legitimate interest in securing and improving the service.

Article 13 – Data Retention and Third-Party Sharing

Your data is retained for as long as necessary to provide the service, and beyond that to meet applicable legal or regulatory obligations. Data may be shared with the following service providers strictly in the context of providing the service:

  • Google (authentication via Google OAuth; audience measurement via Google Analytics);
  • OpenRouter (content processing by AI language models);
  • Lemon Squeezy (payment processing).

These providers may be located outside the European Union (in particular in the United States). They have limited access to data strictly within the scope of their services and are bound by contractual data protection obligations compliant with the GDPR.

Article 14 – Cookies

The website uses cookies and trackers to measure audience and improve user experience. On your first visit, a banner invites you to accept or decline cookies. Your consent is valid for 13 months. You may change your preferences at any time.

Article 15 – Applicable Law

These terms and conditions are governed by French law. Any dispute relating to their interpretation or performance is subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of the publisher's registered seat, subject to mandatory consumer protection provisions.
